About

Reproduced from Squares Around Victoria June 1992

 It was pleasing to
see Ron and Ella receive their Life Patron badges at the 33rd Australian National
Square Dance Convention.

Ron commenced
calling in 1956 and still calling today at the Sunnyside clubs.

National
Conventions commenced in 1960 in Canberra with dancers from N.S. W. and OLD.

It was Ron and
Ella who took the first group of  Vics to Newcastle in 1963 and despite reservations concerning local support. a bid for the 1964 Convention went to Victoria.
It was an outstanding success and was the breakthrough needed to encourage other states
to bid for future conventions.
In that year
they introduced Round Dance sessions to National Conventions.
They were responsible
for the introduction of showcase rounds to National Conventions.

This following list shows the dedication that both Ron and Ella have given to National Conventions over the past 30 years.
Ron and Ella were the organisers of the 1964 National – Melbourne.
Ron was Convenor and Ella ‘Treasurer of the 1969 National – Melbourne.
Ron was Convenor of the 1975 National – Melbourne.
Ron was Co-Convenor and Ella Catering Officer of the 1983 National -Melbourne.
They were the first to introduce cueing of rounds and have conducted Round Dance Sessions at the National Conventions in Perth. Adelaide. Hobart, Geelong. Launceston and of course their home town Melbourne.

Apart from the world done for National Conventions they have taken a group of 120 Victorian dancers to the 1st N.Z. Southern Hemisphere 1974 Convention.
Ron has called at both American and Canadian National Conventions.
They have both received State and National Awards too numerous to mention for their work in the Square and Round Dance World.

Congratulations
Ron & Ella.
Your dedication put Nationals on the map.

Ron sadly passed away on the 30th January 1993
