Micheal (Mike) Davey
Mike Davey is a respected and dedicated figure in the Australian square dancing community, contributing at local, state, and national levels for over four decades. With more than 46 years of experience as a caller and over 41 years as a club caller, Mike has been teaching beginners every year for over 35 years—making a lasting impact on generations of dancers.

Throughout his calling career, Mike has been closely involved with several clubs, including Surfside 8’s, ESP, Sunnyside, Jaybee Square Wheelers, and Mike’s Plus. He has been a member of the Australian Callers Federation (ACF) since 1988 and has served on the ACF board for many years, contributing to the growth and quality of calling across Australia.

Mike has also played a significant role in the organization of national events. He has attended and called at 36 National Conventions and served on several National Convention Committees, including:

  • 2024 Darwin – Program Manager

  • 2017 Bendigo – Convener

  • 2011 Darwin – Co-Program Manager

  • 2005 Warrnambool – Program Manager

  • 1991 Broadmeadows – Assistant Program Manager

  • 1987 Geelong – Assistant Program Manager

Since 2014, Mike has served on the National Conventions Board as a Committee Member, continuing his strong commitment to the future of square dancing in Australia.

Internationally, Mike has represented Australia by calling in the UK, Japan, and New Zealand. Recognized as one of the country’s finest callers, he is also known for mentoring new callers and generously sharing his knowledge and passion for the activity.

More than just a caller and organiser, Mike is also a beloved dancer. Known for his welcoming nature and ever-present smile, he brings warmth and encouragement to everyone he meets. His unwavering commitment over 46 years has helped shape and elevate square dancing across Australia, making it a more inclusive, vibrant, and joyful community.
