About

Gary Brown was a proud second-generation square dancer, born into the well known Brown family that was deeply rooted in the square dancing community.

 The son of Marion and Eric Brown, Gary continued the family tradition alongside his wife, Robin, and their children Adrian, Melanie, and Leanne, all of whom were actively involved in the square dancing movement.

Gary’s dedication extended far beyond his home state of Victoria. He made significant contributions at both state and national levels.
He convened ten Victorian State Conventions, organised numerous VSDA Dinner Dances, and was the convenor of three National Conventions held in Victoria.

A long time member of the National Square Dance Society of Australia and founding member of the Australian National Square Dance Conventions Board, on both Gary served in various leadership roles including Treasurer, Vice President, and President. Locally, he was a long-time committee member of the Victorian Square Dancing Association (VSDA), holding positions such as Treasurer, Secretary, Vice President, and President over the years.

In recognition of his lifelong passion and dedication to the square dancing community, Gary was honoured as a Life Member of the VSDA and named a Life Patron of the Australian National Square Dance Conventions Board.

After the heartbreaking loss of his only son Adrian, his daughter inlaw Mirrabelle and 3 of his grand-children, Eric, Mattew and Brielle, Gary stepped back from active participation in square dancing and turned his focus to another passion of stamp Collecting. Specialising in First Day Covers and stamps from the Country of Aden (now known as Yemen)
He travelled the world with Robin, serving as a judge at international stamp exhibitions.

Gary Brown passed away on September 14, 2019, at the age of 69.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife Robin, daughters Melanie and
Leanne, his grandchildren and gondly remembered by the Square Dance community.
