Frank Kennedy
FRANCIS (FRANK) GERARD KENNEDY
9 July 1927 – 31 August 2025
Affectionately known in the square dance world as “The Silver Fox.”
Frank Kennedy was a beloved and respected square dance caller based in Victoria, Australia. His charisma, mentorship, and unwavering dedication left an indelible mark on the square dancing community.
A Life Member of the Victorian Callers Association, Frank was honoured for his lifelong contributions to fostering square dancing across the state. Together with his wife Joan, he ran the Westgate Squares club in Newport, Victoria — a welcoming space where amateur callers were nurtured and given the opportunity to grow. Frank’s encouragement and generosity helped launch the careers of many callers, including Howard Cockburn, Neil Wyn, Sharon Lacey, Jaden Frigo, and countless others who credit him as a guiding influence.
Frank’s impact extended far beyond his own club. He was instrumental in cultivating talent and enthusiasm throughout the region, always leading with kindness, humour, and a deep love for the art of calling. Known for his showmanship and gentlemanly charm, Frank was a true entertainer — adored by dancers and fellow callers alike.
His legacy lives on in the voices of those he mentored, the joy he brought to the dance floor, and the community he helped build.
He will be deeply missed.
