B-BAR-H
B-BAR-H – NSW - 58 Years - August 2025
Congratulations to Jason, Leanne, Brian & Lorraine for organising such a wonderful event to celebrate B-Bar-H running for 58 years and one month and so wonderful to see so many square dancers coming along to join the celebration. The club actually started on Tuesday night, July 11 1967.
What is it that enables a group to enjoy such longevity?
I am pretty sure it takes determination and commitment to ensure longevity
In one of Brian’s bio, he talks about learning to square dancing and says:
Everybody at the club was so friendly and welcoming, I felt from the start that I was one-of-the-group. Is it the sense of family and belonging that enables a group to continue for a long time?
Is it as a caller, cuer or leader that you always give dancers the sincere impression that you’re really pleased to be with them, and right now there’s nowhere else you’d rather be or that you Call or cue with a smile in your voice
Is it the elements of fun and friendship set to music?
It seems B-Bar-H dancers certainly know how to have fun. On reading club news in the Review the club enjoyed parties; such as Halloween, Come as You Are and Country and Western nights. Any excuse to dress up! I wonder where they got that from?
Friendships were gained and developed not just at square dancing events but during tennis afternoons, picnics, club banner raids, weekends away and Cabarets.
Trips to New Zealand, Norfolk Island and the Murray River
Brian has been the caller for most of those years, however from 1975 to sometime in 1978 Laurie Cox was the caller. Laurie called at the Lakeside Motor Inn.
I would be neglectful if I did not mention Wendy and her assistance to B-Bar-H in the early days. In March 1975 Brian and Wendy were made Life Members of B Bar H in appreciation of the work they had done for the club.
B Bar H enjoyed many visiting callers, especially when Brian travelled to conventions or overseas. John Dixon, in early days, Trevor Lean and Bill McHardy from Toowoomba to name a few.
Like many clubs; nights and locations have changed overtime.
Finally on behalf of the National Square Dance Society of Australia and the Square & Round Dance Association of NSW I would like to congratulate B Bar H for being 58 years young.
