Andy Lowan
Remembering Andy Lown
For over a decade, Andy Lown’s voice rang out across dance halls in New South Wales, guiding dancers with rhythm, warmth, and precision.
Based in North Ryde, Andy was a beloved square dance caller whose commitment to the art form helped shape the community spirit of Mosman Squares and beyond.
Andy called regularly for Mosman Squares for more than 11 years, bringing consistency and joy to dancers of all ages. His calling style was inclusive and upbeat, often tailored for Mainstream and Party Dances, making newcomers feel welcome while keeping seasoned dancers engaged.
Beyond the microphone, Andy served as Secretary of the New South Wales Callers Association Inc., where he played a vital role in organizing events, supporting fellow callers, and maintaining the standards of square dance calling across the state. His administrative dedication ensured that the caller community remained connected and vibrant.
In recognition of his contributions, the Square and Round Dance Association of NSW Inc. established the Andy Lown Memorial Christmas Dinner Dance, an annual event that continues to bring dancers together in celebration of community, music, and tradition. The memorial dance is a testament to Andy’s enduring influence and the joy he brought to countless dancers.
Andy’s calling was more than choreography, it was connection. His voice, steady and cheerful, became a familiar thread in the tapestry of New South Wales square dancing.
Though he is no longer with us, his legacy lives on.
