About

ERIC SCHUMANN
It was moved at our last State Society Annual General Meeting, held on 19th September 1999, that Mr Eric Schumann be nominated for the “Roll of Honour”. 􀀡 have known Eric for some 26Yz years, and I would also like to personally recommend him for this honour.

Eric has been a loyal and enthusiastic member of my club the “W􀀭d Frontier Square Dance Club”, which is coming up for 27 years old, for as many years. I have run a beginners class annually during this period, and Eric has been involved with every one of them_

Eric has also been part of our own State Society since its inception, back in 1973. In 1974, at the National Convention, held here in Adelaide, the basis for the National Society was formed with a meeting of all State Society Presidents. In 1979, at the Perth National Convention, it was decided to form a National Society. Eric Wendell was the first President, whilst Eric Schumann was elected Founder Vice President. Eric then held the President position from 1981 to 1983.

Home in South Australia, Eric was also heavily involved with The South Australian Square Dance Society Inc. In 1976 he became our Vice President, a position he held until 1979, when he became President. In 1981-82 Eric was again Vice President, and in 1983 he took over the Editorship of our local Square Dance magazine, the “Round Up”.
in 1984 Eric took up the State Convenor position.

In 1987 to 1988 Eric was South Australian State editor of the South Pacific Square Dance Review.
From 1989 to 1997 Eric held the position of Secretary and Public Officer of The South Australian Square Dance Society Inc.
On behalf of Square Dancers within South Australia, I highly recommend Eric Schumann as part of South Australia for the National Roll of Honour

Yours sincerely

RE: Eric Schumann

I first became aquainted with Eric schumann in the early l 990’s.
Previous to that Eric was a wealth of information regarding Society matters back to 1974 where he was a club representative, in 1976 when he was vice president of SASDS, in 1978 he became president of SASDS, in 1981 he became vice president and co-editor of Round Up, in 1987 he also became South Pacific Review editor and from 1989-1997 he was the secretary of SASDS. In total Eric has served almost non-stop for the SASDS for in excess of 23 years.

On the national level Eric served on the Perth National 1979 where he proposed that a meeting of state representatives have a more organised format, thus the National Society was later formed with Eric as founder vice president and in 1981 he was elected president for a two year term.

In 1992 he was chairman of the National Convention AGM in Adelaide and again in 1998.

Eric was also active in community work and in local Government for a period of time. He was secretary to various church groups and charities and served his country from 1943 to 1947 in the Pacific region, so I believe that Eric Schumann well and truly meets the criteria for Role of Honour.
