Alan Evans began his journey in square dancing in 1971 and attended his first National Convention in Brisbane in 1972. He took up calling in 1974 and launched his first club on 19th July 1975.
Throughout his calling career, Alan has worked with numerous clubs. In 1992, he took over the Gumdale Grand Sliders from Eric Wendell. Later, in 1999, he became the main caller for Burleigh Squares, a position he held until the club closed in 2022. Alan is currently the caller for Logan Squares, a role he has proudly held for 29 years.
Alan has been a long-standing and dedicated member of the Queensland Callers Association. Over the years, he has served in multiple leadership roles, including:
Treasurer (1987–1990)
Vice President (1991, 1993–1994)
Secretary (1992)
President (1995–2003)
Training Officer (2006–2012)
In recognition of his outstanding contributions, Alan was awarded the Scroll of Honour in 2004 and received Life Membership in 2009.
His influence extends beyond Queensland. Alan has called in most Australian states, as well as internationally in Japan and New Zealand. In 2024, he proudly celebrated 50 years of calling, and was presented with a Golden Microphone in honour of this milestone.
Alan also served as Vice-President of the Queensland Society in 2005 and was honoured with the Queensland Roll of Honour in 2012. This prestigious award recognises individuals who have gone above and beyond in their contributions to square dancing, dedicating time and effort to its advancement in an exceptional and selfless manner.
At the national level, Alan was a Board Member of the Australian Callers Federation from 2002–2004 and again from 2009–2014.
With five decades of commitment, leadership, and passion, Alan Evans continues to be a driving force in the square dancing community in Australia and beyond.
