Joking Cloggers

Back in 2001, Jo-King Cloggers came together just before the National Clogging Convention,
Merging two smaller groups: Footloose Cloggers and North City Shufflers.

North City Shufflers was led by Kingsley Dawes, who started it in 1989, and Footloose Cloggers was run by Joanna Buswell, who began it in 1991.

Both instructors were trained by Gina Zaragoza at the Kangaroo Kloggers Klub.

We initially started with just one night of classes, on Mondays, at the Eric Strauss Community Centre in the Hampton High School in Morley for many years. Later, we moved to the Carramar Community Centre in Beechboro/Morley.

With the help of Glenn Dale and his Urban Cowboys line dance club, we opened a Thursday night class in Cannington and then Bentley.

The Monday night class had to end because the hall was no longer available and Jo and Kingsley were only able to teach once a week on Thursdays. The club venue changed again to Belmont and then Inglewood, where we stayed until the costs made us move to our current hall on Cyril Road, High Wycombe.

In 2024, one of our members, Lynda Bain, asked to start a Saturday morning class at the Gosnells RSL Hall.

The number of people in both classes has changed over the years, but we usually have about 10 to 15 regulars, and we’re starting new beginner classes again in 2026.

 JoKing Achievements

We’ve put on many demonstrations at square dance events, local festivals, national clogging conventions and private club gatherings throughout the years.

In 2024, we were thrilled to win the state showcase at the National Clogging Convention in Perth, WA, which we also hosted. This was choreographed by Joanna Buswell and Lynda Bain.

Our friends from the Eastern states have been visiting us, which has been fantastic for learning new routines and attending advanced workshops.

 Future if the Club
