Colin Crompton was a foundational figure in the revival of square dancing in Western Australia during the late 1960s.
His leadership helped re-establish square dancing as a vibrant community activity after a period of decline, and his efforts laid the groundwork for statewide coordination and national recognition.
Elected President of the White Gum Valley Square Dance Club in April 1969, guiding the club through a period of renewal and formalisation.
Played a key role in the formation of the Square Dance Society of Western Australia, which unified clubs across the state and facilitated broader collaboration.
Instrumental in securing Perth as the host city for the 12th Australian National Square Dance Convention in 1971, bringing national attention to WA’s square dance community.
- Interviewed in 2005 by Heather Campbell for the Fremantle Local History Centre, where he shared insights into the role of Sullivan Hall and the cultural significance of square dancing in White Gum Valley.
